Why We Built This Site

We created this website to shine a long-overdue spotlight on Fort Teshie (Fort Augustaborg)—a site too often overlooked in Ghana’s coastal heritage narrative. While forts like Elmina and Cape Coast dominate public attention, Fort Teshie offers a distinct and compelling story: one rooted in Danish diplomacy, local Ga-Adangbe agency, and a critical moment in the global shift toward abolition and human rights. By building a space that’s informative, accessible, and grounded in both oral history and archival research, we hope to challenge the “generic British fort” stereotype and give Fort Teshie the recognition it deserves as a site of both historical complexity and cultural pride.
